When do I need to re-feed?

The nutrients in SYBASoil will run out in ~6 months on average.

We will advice you on the right fertiliser after doing our plant scan.

When do I repot?

We recommend repotting once any of these things happen:

  • You see roots growing out of the bottom of the pot
  • The soil dries very quickly between watering
  • The plant is top-heavy and wants to fall over
  • Roots are pushing the plant up and out of the container
  • Every 1 to 2 years

What can I expect when using your products?

94.2% of customers report visibly stronger roots& leaf growth within a few weeks.

You will also notice that watering becomes a lot easier due to having the right soil structure.

Why is the soil peat-free?

We don't think peat is so neat!

It becomes too compact over time, leading to a state where it no longer absorbs water.

That's why we opt for coconut fiber and worm castings, keeping your potting soil delightfully airy and usable for much longer. Much more environmentally friendly in its use & less CO2!

🎍 The Perfect Bamboo Soil For Healthy Growth & Happy Plants

How Does Ficus Mix Work for Bamboo?

Bamboo has vigorous underground growth, which requires a soil that’s breathable, structurally stable, and rich enough to support fast growth without becoming too dense or soggy. Ficus Mix hits that balance. It’s formulated to support active root expansion and upright growth while maintaining moisture control — a must for keeping bamboo healthy indoors or outdoors.

Here’s how each ingredient supports bamboo:

Coco coir – Helps retain moisture evenly throughout the container. Bamboo dislikes drying out completely, and coco coir holds onto water just enough while staying light and breathable.

Worm castings – Provide a gentle, slow-release supply of nutrients including nitrogen and potassium — two elements bamboo loves. This encourages strong shoot production and vibrant green leaves without the risk of nutrient burn.

Perlite – Enhances root aeration and drainage. This is essential for bamboo, especially in pots, where air circulation in the root zone helps prevent root rot and supports dense, upright growth.

Horticultural sand – Increases drainage speed and gives the mix a dry, crumbly texture. This helps prevent soggy conditions, especially in high-humidity environments or deep pots.

Coco husk chips – Add a coarse, open structure that promotes air circulation around the roots and prevents compaction over time. Particularly beneficial for larger potted palms that require regular watering.

Lava gravel – Adds mineral content and improves soil structure. It also prevents compaction in the long term, especially important for bamboo’s spreading rhizomes.

Activated carbon – Promotes healthy root systems by absorbing excess salts and toxins from water or fertilizer buildup. This keeps the growing environment balanced, especially in closed containers.

Organic nutrients – Deliver balanced, long-term feeding that keeps bamboo energized for continuous growth. Unlike synthetic fertilizers, these won’t lead to sudden surges in growth followed by stress or yellowing.

Together, these components create a supportive, fast-draining, and nutrient-stable base for bamboo to grow tall, green, and vigorous — especially in containers where airflow and water control are critical.

The Original Habitat of Bamboo

Bamboo naturally occurs in a wide range of environments, from humid tropical forests to dry mountain slopes, depending on the species. The most common types used in home gardening — such as Phyllostachys, Fargesia, and Bambusa — are native to Asia, especially China, India, and Southeast Asia.

In their native habitats, bamboo typically grows in loose, rich soils with high organic content and good drainage. Forest floors where bamboo thrives tend to stay evenly moist thanks to decaying plant matter, but they’re never swampy. Bamboo evolved to root deeply and quickly in soil that’s both breathable and supportive — it doesn’t do well in stagnant or compacted environments.

Our Ficus Mix recreates these loose, biologically active conditions. It keeps the root zone cool and moist, offers a steady release of nutrients, and prevents the compaction that can hinder bamboo’s natural spreading tendencies.

How to Care for Bamboo

Bamboo is low-maintenance once established, but with the right setup and consistent care, you can maximize its health and growth — especially in containers.

Light: Most bamboos thrive in bright, indirect light or partial sun. Some species tolerate full sun, but indoor varieties like Fargesia prefer filtered light. Watch the leaf color — pale leaves often mean too much sun.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy. Water deeply when the top 3–5 cm feels dry. In hot weather or windy conditions, increase watering frequency — bamboo loses a lot of water through its leaves.

Feeding: With Ficus Mix, your bamboo already has a solid nutrient base. For faster-growing species or outdoor setups, you can supplement with a slow-release organic fertilizer in spring and midsummer. Avoid overfeeding — too much nitrogen can cause weak, lanky stems.

Pruning: Trim dead or damaged canes regularly to improve airflow and keep the plant tidy. For container bamboos, cut back new shoots if they get too tall or dense.

Pot size: Bamboo can quickly outgrow its pot. Repot every 2–3 years into a larger container, or divide the root ball to control size. Always use fresh Ficus Mix to refresh nutrients and structure.

Winter care: Most clumping varieties are cold-hardy, but young plants or those in pots may need protection in freezing weather. Wrap pots or move them to a sheltered location to prevent root damage.

With the right soil and a bit of attention, bamboo becomes one of the most rewarding plants to grow — fast, green, architectural, and incredibly resilient. Whether you're aiming for a modern minimalist look or a lush privacy screen, Ficus Mix sets the stage for bamboo to grow strong and stay healthy.
